Corporate Services Department has responsibility for the processing of Higher Education Grants Applications in accordance with the Local Authorities (Higher Education Grants) Act, 1968 to 1992 and the relevant Department of Education and Skills Higher Education Grants Scheme. A new Scheme is drawn up each year by the Department of Education & Skills before being formally adopted by each Local Authority.
The Scheme applies to students who are commencing approved courses for the first time in that academic year. The student must be undertaking an approved full-time undergraduate course of at least 2 years in duration or a full-time postgraduate course at an approved third level institution. Certain conditions must be fulfilled in order to be eligible for a grant under the scheme e.g. academic attainments, means, residence within SDCC administrative area and nationality.
